As a Penn State journalism major with a minor in English you would think that writing comes naturally to me? However, when it comes to writing about myself, it becomes way more difficult. So, here goes nothing… I grew up on Long Island, New York (and if you’re a New Yorker too, you know it is on and not in). Currently, I live in downtown State College with three other roommates.

When I got to Penn State a sorority sister of mine in Kappa Alpha Theta reached out about a writing opportunity. As a sophomore at the time with no real-life writing experience, I immediately reached out. I wrote for a startup sports company called Rookie Road. I developed their online content and wrote about sports I knew nothing about. This grew my researching skills exponentially.

This past summer I landed an internship with a company called The Parlor. I developed my marketing and social media writing skills as well as interviewing skills. I continue to talk to my boss, often. This job directed my professional mindset heavily.

When I grow up, which is shockingly soon, I would like to work for a marketing or PR company and be a free-lance writer on the side. I would write articles, stories, poetry, you name it.

Social media has become overly stimulating. I try to update myself in the most efficient way to avoid being overwhelmed. I focus on top news stories that are current and pressing while also allotting some time for guilty pleasures like celebrity gossip. My favorite pieces are feature stories about real-life people being super-heroes. I hope as a writer I can one day give recognition to people who would otherwise never be known.
